Robert Lewis “Bob” McNeely, Ph.D.
Dr. Robert McNeely is the son of Ralph McNeely of Burke County North Carolina and Lillie Oxford (daughter of Adam Barnes Oxford Jr of Caldwell County, North Carolina). Robert grew up in Burke County North Carolina and received a B.S. degree from Duke University. He served in the Peace Corps as a high school teacher in Nigeria in West Africa. He earned a Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
For thirty years he was a chemistry professor and college administrator at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. He retired in 1997 and has been greatly involved in world travel and in genealogy studies. He is the Historian for the North Carolina Oxford Reunion Association and has published the book “Oxford Family Genealogy” which is available in many western North Carolina public libraries. He has also published the book of maps called “Land Grants of Greater Burke County North Carolina”.
He continues to be quite interested in Oxford family history and has recently traveled to England studying early Oxford family origins. He has an extensive database of Oxford family members from all over the United States, especially of direct descendants of Samuel Oxford and Bathsheba Barrett of Oxford Ford in Catawba (formerly Lincoln) County North Carolina.
